Rank Forge connects to Google Search Console via OAuth 2.0 and pulls your rank data directly into the WordPress admin. See which keywords you rank for, how they’re trending, which pages are gaining and losing traffic, and which posts are showing signs of content decay — all without leaving WordPress.
What you get by connecting GSC
Automatic rank sync
Every 24 hours, Rank Forge pulls the latest ranking data from Google Search Console and stores it in your WordPress database. Keyword positions, clicks, impressions, and CTR are available in the Rank Forge dashboard and in each post’s meta box.
Per-post keyword rankings
Every post in Rank Forge shows the top 10 keywords it ranks for, with position, clicks, impressions, and 28-day trends. Click into a keyword to see historical charts.
Content Decay Detection
This is the killer feature built on GSC data. Rank Forge automatically compares every post’s performance over 28-day windows and alerts you when clicks, impressions, or positions drop beyond a threshold. Instead of discovering traffic declines quarters later, you catch them within days.
Site-wide dashboard
The Rank Forge dashboard aggregates GSC data into an overview: total clicks this period vs last period, keywords gained and lost, best-performing pages, worst-declining pages, top rising and falling keywords.
AI audit integration
The AI Site Audit incorporates GSC data for prioritization. Pages with traffic potential but SEO issues get prioritized higher than pages with low opportunity.
How to connect
Step 1: Click “Connect Google Search Console”
In Rank Forge settings, click Connect Google Search Console. You’ll be redirected to Google’s OAuth consent screen.
Step 2: Authorize access
Google shows you what Rank Forge is requesting access to:
- Read-only access to Search Console data (no write permissions)
- Limited to the specific GSC property you select
Approve and you’re redirected back to WordPress.
Step 3: Select your GSC property
If you manage multiple GSC properties, pick the one that matches this WordPress site. Rank Forge supports both domain properties (recommended) and URL-prefix properties.
Step 4: Initial sync
Rank Forge pulls 16 months of historical data (GSC’s maximum retention) in the background. This usually takes 5–15 minutes for a typical site. You can keep working while it runs.
Step 5: Daily sync begins
After initial sync, daily updates happen automatically via WP Cron. No manual refresh needed.
Token storage and security
OAuth tokens from your Google account are stored encrypted in our managed Forge API backend — not in your WordPress database. This keeps credentials secure even if your WordPress site is compromised.
Tokens are used only for the specific Search Console scope you authorized. Rank Forge cannot access your Gmail, Google Drive, or any other Google service.
You can revoke access at any time from two places:
- Inside Rank Forge — click Disconnect in settings
- Inside your Google account — visit myaccount.google.com/permissions and revoke Rank Forge’s access

For these, use the GSC web interface. For rank tracking, keyword data, and traffic analysis, Rank Forge is a direct replacement for the GSC Performance report.

Troubleshooting GSC connection
“Property not verified”
The GSC property must be verified before Rank Forge can access it. Verify it in GSC first (via DNS or file upload), then reconnect.
“No data showing”
Initial sync takes 5–15 minutes. Check back after 20 minutes. If data is still empty, GSC may not have rank data for the property yet (new sites take 2–4 weeks to start appearing in GSC).
“OAuth error”
Tokens expire occasionally. Click Reconnect in settings to refresh the OAuth flow.
“Rate limit exceeded”
GSC API has daily quotas. If you’re running multiple Rank Forge instances on the same GSC property, you may hit limits. Contact support for mitigation.
